After a detailed qualification review, the City of Chicago has awarded Chicago Filmmakers, a 37 year-old media arts organization that fosters the creation, appreciation and understanding of film and video as media for artistic and personal expression, the coveted Ridge Firehouse at 5714 North Ridge Avenue. The Bureau of Architecture and Design will recreate the Chicago Landmark into the new home for Filmmakers.
The distinctive firehouse was built during an important period of growth for Chicago that resulted in the construction of some of the City’s most ornate firehouses. It is trimmed in terra cotta and ornamented with Classical-style details. BUREAU|AD will restore these lovely details, convert the truck bay into a theatre and reorganize the second floor into offices and classrooms.
