BUREAU of Architecture and Design is a nationally-recognized boutique architecture and design firm committed to design excellence. Founded in 2012, the Chicago-based firm has built its reputation through a wide range of projects, including residential, hospitality, institutional and commercial. Founding Principals James Gorski and Tom Nahabedian partnered their talents to explore all things designed, bringing an interdisciplinary approach to every project. The firm’s work is punctuated by a rigorous attention to detail, programming and space planning, contextuality, materiality, sustainability and innovation.
James Gorski is a Licensed Architect with a broad range of professional experience. He holds a dual Masters Degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering (Construction Management) at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. Following years employed with renowned architecture firms in Chicago, James spent a year on sabbatical in Rome, Italy at the American Academy.
James is married to architect Eleanor Gorski and they lovingly raise their two children in the Beverly neighborhood on Chicago’s Southside. James is a volunteer on the Facilities Committee for his son’s Montessori School and is the Ridge Park Renovation Committee Chair for the Beverly Ridge Homeowners Association.
Tom Nahabedian is a Designer with an Architecture pedigree. He trained at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign [Bachelor of Arts in Economics] and the Illinois Institute of Technology [Master of Architecture]. Following years employed with architecture firms in Chicago and Los Angeles, Nahabedian started his own design practice, NC Collaboration, in early 2000 in Los Angeles before moving back home to Chicago. His work has been nationally and locally recognized in publications and awards for outstanding hospitality and residential design completed throughout the United States.
Life as a husband and father of two young children occupy the majority of Tom’s time away from the drafting table; as well as involvement in community issues and serving as a founding member on the Board of Directors for the Oz Park Baseball Association in Chicago.
